  • 1 pound thick-cut turkey bacon, diced
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 small Fuji apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons barley tea

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook the diced turkey bacon until crispy. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.
  2. Using the remaining grease in the pan, sauté the finely diced onion over medium-low heat until translucent (about 8-10 minutes).
  3. Add the diced Fuji apples and stir well to combine. Cook until softened and caramelized (4-5 minutes).
  4. Mix in minced garlic, brown sugar, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, and cooked turkey bacon.
  5. Stir in barley tea and return to heat. Simmer for about 10-12 minutes or until thickened to jam consistency.
  6. Serve warm or cold; reheating enhances flavor.
