Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 ½ to 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ cup mashed banana
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (very soft)
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 2 large bananas (thinly sliced)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (slightly warmed)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, combine lukewarm milk and melted butter. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
  2. 2. Add instant yeast and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes). Mix in salt and mashed banana.
  3. 3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  4. 4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let rise in an oiled bowl for about an hour until doubled.
  5. 5. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter over it and sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, and sliced bananas.
  6. 6. Roll tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces; place on a parchment-lined baking sheet to rise again for 30 minutes.
  7. 7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 25-35 minutes until golden brown.
  8. 8. For frosting, beat cream cheese and softened butter; mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Frost rolls after cooling slightly.
