  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1¼ cups salted butter (divided)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 4 cups pecan halves (divided)
  • 15.25 ounces white cake mix
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups dark brown sugar, corn syrup, ½ cup melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Stir in 3 cups of pecans and spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pecan layer without mixing.
  5. Drizzle remaining melted butter over the cake mix and top with remaining brown sugar.
  6. Carefully pour hot water over all layers without stirring.
  7. Finish by adding the last cup of pecans on top.
